Is Decorah a Transition Community?

I want to recommend an article on the Transition Initiative. This article was referred to me by Craig Mosher printed in Orion magazine. A portion of the article is shown below. It seems to me that our area is already a Transition Community fully on our way to expand the local food system, develop permaculture, plant trees, and prepare a future without cars as the dominant transportation. Why have an Inaugural Ball and Community Planning Workshop?

I sense there is great excitement about the inauguration of President Elect Barrack Obama. I too am excited for a number of reasons. Even if someone else were elected, we would all need to embrace the presidency if we are to work together on our the challenges of the day. I grew up and have lived in Decorah my whole life. A graduate of Luther College as well. I am now at med school and earning my CCL and masters in nutrition. Environmental philosophy and nutrition keeps me sane.

My e-mail is nesleksa@yahoo.com Eagle Grove is by Fort Dodge, but I graduated from HS in West Union and I am currently working to restore the Jacobson Farm at Decorah for the Vesterheim museum. I thought thiis may be one way of getting the word out on the farm.
